Kamaka Concert Ukulele
Tiki Head Model Gold Label
Price: $1850

If you're looking at this you probably already know that
this is a very special ukulele. The Kamaka Tiki Head Concerts were built
in the late sixties and early seventies. This particualr one being a Gold
Label it would have been built prior to 1969 when they started using the
white label inside..
On a trip to Hawaii a few years ago I stopped by the Kamaka
factory to have them look at this and address a couple of issues.
The first was a slight buzz on a couple of the frets which
they fixed by installing a new Corian nut and bridge saddle. That alone
brightened up the fabulous tone and made the already easy to play action
really come alive.
The next thing was three small cracks. They determined
that the cracks were hairline only and did not require any repair. They
did, however, seal them by "putting in a little Titebond"
The young man at the factory told me the Tiki Heads were
made back in the days when one luthier made the entire uke from beginning
to end, unlike today where different operations are perfomed by different
workers. He said the man who made the Concerts at that time put the Tiki
Heads on his particualar instruments to distinguish them.
I've seen and owned quite a few Tiki Head Concerts in
the past but this is one of a few Gold Labels I've ever seen. The Gold
Labels I've seen always have three side dots whereas the white labels
I've seen only have one.
There is very little wear on the fingerboard. I only play
this uke occasionally and it appears to have hardly been played over it's
life. There is very little, if any, strumming wear and this uke looks
just as good in person as it does in these photos.
I can honestly say that this ukulele is a collector's
item. And I don't use that term oftern or lightly to describe any instrument.
You will have seven days upon receipt of this instrument
to examine it. If you are dissapointed in any way with the uke you can
return it in it's original packaging in the same condition for a full
refund.

Note three side dots.

Note the dark grain line that runs the complete length of the back. This
is solid. No breaks. You can't feel it with your fingernail inside or
out.

There is some slight, almost imperceptible strumming wear on the top
just below where the fingerboard meets the soundhole. It is so slight
as to be unphotographable and you con only see it if you look in a certain
angle to the light.

Note the small hairline surface crack just below the dark grain line
that runs the complete length of the bottom. It was sealed at the Kamaka
factory with Titebond a couple of years ago.

Note two small hairline surface cracks on either side of the seam.
They are not through and have been sealed with Titebond at the Kamaka
Factory.
