Walt Phillips Video Collection

Walt Phillips was one of the pioneer surf film producers. He went on to become a tv producer. His films are chock full of action covering both major and rarely photographed spots in California. His Hawaii footage is vintage and classic.

Sunset Surf Craze

Fade in: Fred Van Dyke in the class room. A pretty blonde slips him a note. "Surf's up", and he's out the door and on his way to Sunset Beach. After that it's nonstop action, wave after wave of great surf and great rides featuring the hot riders of the day. This was 1959 before surfing magazines, so films such as these were the only surf media.

Surf Mania

Filmed in 1961. Awesome North Shore Hawaii and classic small wave California. A side trip to Mexico with Robert August and Bill Fury. The modern day interview with Mike Doyle is very interesting giving some insights to the way it was.

Donald Takayama, Timmy Dorsey, Peter Cole and Ricky Grigg, and many more.

Walt's laid back narration is informative and entertaining.

Psyche Out

By 1962. Walt, who was a trained cinematographer before surfing, starts to mature as a film maker. The opening sequence is a case in point.
